Aug. 26, 2008 Job actions at several St.Thomas schools has caused Jeanette Smith-Barry insular superintendent for the St. Thomas-St. John District, to send students from seven schools home after lunch. Buses will be provided for students who take the bus. However, students whose parents normally pick them up need to make arrangements for them.
The schools being dismissed include: Ivanna Eudora Kean High, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Joseph Gomez Elementary School, Joseph Sibilly Elementary School ,Lockhart Elementary School , Gladys Abraham Elementary School , and the Yvonne Milliner-Bowsky Elementary School.
Smith said that nine 10 of the districts 17 activity centers were operating under near normal conditions and can continue through the end of the school day. Those schools include: Leonard Dober Elementary School, Charlotte Amalie High School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High, E. Benjamin Oliver, Jane E. Tuitt, J. Antonio Jarvis, Ulla Muller Elementary School , Evelyn Marcelli Elementary School, Guy Benjamin Elementary School and Julius Sprauve Elementary School.
"The majority of the teachers showed up," said spokeswoman Juel Anderson.
The issue are with contract negotiations, Anderson said.
