Oct. 7, 2008 – The Territorial Archives of the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums will conduct an "All About Archives" workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 11, at The Florence Williams Public Library's Caribbean Collection and Archives Research Room (3rd Floor). The workshop is free and open to the public.
It will be conducted by Susan Laura Lugo, territorial coordinator for archives, and will feature presentations by division staff members responsible for the territory's archives, records Management and Special Collections. Participants will learn about the responsibilities and functions of the Territorial Archives, the role of records and information management in preserving the history of the Virgin Islands, and the duties of V.I. archivists and records managers.
Participants will also have an opportunity to see and handle original historical records, photographs and collections and to learn about their value, care and custody. A brief tour of the Caribbean Collection and Archives housed at Florence Williams Public Library will conclude the workshop.
Registration for the workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. The library may be accessed by descending the stairs at the King Street entrance or from the rear parking lot entry on the first level.
