The 2010 District Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Fair will take place on Thursday, April 22, at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center, celebrating the theme, “Take STEM to the Top in 2010,” according to a press release from Superintendent for the St. Thomas-St. John District Jeannette Smith-Barry Secondary. Students in grades 7-12 from public, private and parochial schools will display projects in science research, science demonstration, math abstract problem investigation, math real world problem investigation, math real world model, video presentation, power point presentations, music technology, Web page design, desktop publishing and programming.
Students will organize their science and math projects for judging from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. The judging will take place from 9 a.m.-10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 22. Technology students will set up from 7:30 -8:30 a.m. on April 22 with judging taking place from 8:45-10:30 a.m. The general public is invited to view projects from 10:30 to noon on April 22. The elementary segment of the STEM Fair will take place on May 20, at UVI Sports and Fitness Center. An award ceremony will take place at noon on May 20, for both the secondary and elementary winners.
The fair is sponsored by the Department of Education and organized by Gerald Walters, district science coordinator; Ludence Romney, district mathematics coordinator; and Renaldo Wheatley, district technology coordinator.
