Softball Inc. Gets Its Groove Back; Cartel, Coolers Win

After stumbling out of the gate in the 2011 half of the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League season, Softball Inc. appears to be righting the ship. They have won two out of their last three after defeating the Diageo Hummers, 19-18, Thursday night at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

Softball Inc. sat atop the league standings with a one-game lead over the defending champion Seaborne Stealers just before the Christmas break. But the champs caught fire after the break and Softball Inc. went into a tailspin; they now find themselves looking six games back.

Softball Inc finished with 18 runs on 15 hits and two errors, while the Diageo Hummers plated 18 runs on 14 hits and four errors. The winning pitcher was Cody St. Pierre with Jerry Vialet getting the loss. Top batters for the winners were Antonio Cruz (3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs) and St. Pierre (3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Hummers, Colin Williams was 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and Sylvester Blake was 4 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs.

It was the Cartel with 20 runs on 18 hits and three errors, while the Dirty Dozen finished with three runs on eight hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was James Smith and Jason Roberts got the loss. Top hitters for the Cartel were Roger Moore (3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs) and Kenneth Milligan (4 for 4 with three RBIs).
