Weekend Arrests Nab One for Burglary, Two for DUI

Police on St. Thomas arrested Ryjell Watley at 1:50 p.m. Friday for breaking into a beauty salon at St. Thomas, the V.I. Police reported.

Watley was arrested after he was positively identified as the suspect. The 46-year-old Watley, who police say is homeless, was held on a $25,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections.

Also arrested on St. Thomas during weekend DUI traffic checkpoints were 60-year-old Goven Leonard Kuntz of Hidden Valley and 42-year-old Richard E. Czarnota of Estate Dorothea. Police said Kuntz was involved in a vehicle accident at about 5 p.m. Sunday near the BonJour parking lot and police detected a strong odor of alcohol on him. He was unable to walk steadily and had slurred speech, they added. Kuntz was given a field sobriety test, which he failed and he was arrested.

Czarnota was also involved in an auto accident at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday on General Gade. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol on Czarnota and other signs of intoxication. He also failed the field sobriety test and was arrested.
