Double Murder Suspect Arrested for Attempted Prison Killing

Double-murder suspect Edwin Encarnacion, 31, who is being held by the Bureau of Corrections on St. Thomas, was arrested in prison Thursday and charged with attempted murder in connection with a prison stabbing he allegedly committed in May at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility on St. Croix.

Encarnacion is facing murder charges in the deaths of 45-year-old Jorge Parilla and 41-year-old David Martin.

Police said Encarnacion stabbed another inmate with a shank during an argument in Golden Grove. Both prisoners were sent to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, Encarnacion was transferred to the Bureau of Corrections on St. Thomas, the police reported.

Encarnacion was arrested for this latest crime shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday, based on a warrant signed by VI Superior Court Magistrate Miguel Camacho. His bail was set at $150,000 and he was returned to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections.
