One Suspect Arrested in Thursday Night Shooting

A shooting that locked down Estate La Grande Princess for an hour Thursday night started with an attempted residential burglary, according to V.I. police.

Two men broke into a home Thursday while two residents were inside, the police said. The suspects assaulted one of the residents with a gun and took his personal belongings before running off.

Investigators said the victim chased the suspects, and shots were fired at him. The victim and one of the suspects then engaged in a scuffle. When police arrived on the scene they arrested Mark Thomas, 20, who was found hiding in nearby bushes. The other suspect evaded capture, police said.

Thomas was arrested at about 10 p.m. and charged with first-degree burglary. His bail was set at $75,000 and he was remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.

The victim sustained injuries to the body and was transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for medical treatment.
