St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners Holds Kwanzaa Run

STAR, the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners, concludes its 2012 race calendar with the Kwanzaa Run (and Walk) at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 30. There will be a seven kilometer run (4.3 miles), a two-mile walk and a two-mile run. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. All events start promptly at 4:30 p.m. The two-mile course will circle the UVI field and roadside while the seven kilometer event will follow the Airport Road to the Island Beachcomber bus stop and then return. Medals and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in two age groups (female and male) in each event: 17 and under, 18 and over, with special awards to very young or very senior walkers or runners.
Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for youth under 18, and $2 for STAR members. In addition, voluntary donations will be accepted towards a fund to support the travel of competitive St Thomas-St John runners at races on St. Croix or elsewhere in the region.
Seven kilometers has particular meaning since each kilometer represents one of Kwanzaa’s seven principles. On race day, the principle being observed is Nia (purpose).
Refreshments will be provided.
