Underground Project Begins Paving in Christiansted

Christiansted Underground Project workers on Thursday will begin the final segment of repaving where underground electric and water lines have been recently installed, the Water and Power Authority announced. Work will begin at 4 a.m.

Motorists will see detour signs and flaggers providing directions. Drivers can also use the Christiansted Bypass for access to town areas. All areas will be open to foot traffic.

Also Thursday, King Cross Street from Strand Street to King Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for paving. The paving will then move to the intersection of Queen Cross Street and Strand to the Boardwalk and to Strand Lane.

WAPA reported it anticipates the repaving of these areas will be completed on Friday.

Underground work continues this week on King Street, where work crews will trench, lay conduits and cover up the open trench each day from Prince Street to King Cross Street until that section of King Street is completed. Drivers can reach lower areas of King Street and Christiansted from the Christiansted Bypass.
