Police Investigate Nonfatal Shooting

A man was shot and injured Wednesday evening at the Aureo Diaz Heights housing community, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Witnesses told police the nonfatal shooting took place about 8:30 p.m.

According to the preliminary report, officers were called to the scene and saw the injured victim lying on the sidewalk. Witnesses in the area told police the victim was having his hair braided when the suspect walked up to him and shot him several times.

The suspect was wearing a black mask, a long-sleeved red shirt and black pants.

After the shooting the suspect ran out of sight behind Building 6. The victim, whose name was not released in accord with a department policy to not identify victims, was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital where he was treated.
