Tourism Offers Customer Service Training Nov. 18 and 19

In its ongoing efforts to upgrade V.I. tourism, the Tourism Department will hold customer service training sessions Nov. 18 on St. Croix and Nov. 19 on St. Thomas.

The St. Croix session will be held at University of the Virgin Islands’ Great Hall. On St. Thomas, Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Beach Resort is the location. The morning workshop runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m., repeating from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Tourism Commission Beverly Nicholson Doty said the free customer service training sessions are part of the territory’s efforts to sharpen the skills of Virgin Islanders in every area of the sector.

"The customer service pledge campaign works, and we encourage the entire community to take advantage of the sessions being offered by a Virgin Islander who commands the attention of global audiences," she said.

The sessions will be led by customer service expert Bryan Williams.

"I live for service, and am very passionate about helping companies reach high levels of service and organizational excellence," Williams said.

Williams, who grew up in the territory, is a Maryland-based consultant, trainer and author with expertise in organizational effectiveness and service excellence.

Over the past several years, Williams provided training and consulting services to hundreds of organizations in more than 20 industries, ranging from health care to hospitality, in many parts of the world.

Chief service officer of B. Williams Enterprise, he worked with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company for almost 10 years. He started his career at the Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas as a busboy before eventually becoming the company’s global corporate director of training and organizational effectiveness.

To register for the customer service training, contact Tourism’s marketing department on either island before Nov. 14. The number on St. Croix is 772-0357. On St. Thomas call 774-8784.
