Police on St. Thomas shot and killed a man early Saturday near Fort Christian, according to a source close to the V.I. Police Department.
The shooting did not take place at the Carnival Village, despite rumors to the contrary, the source confirmed.
As of mid-morning, the V.I. Police Department had not released any information regarding the incident while the investigation is ongoing.
According to the source, at 12:22 a.m. Saturday police received a report of an armed man near Fort Christian. Three officers responded and confronted the suspect.
The suspect refused to obey their orders, the source said. When he “challenged” them, one of the police officers fired at the 31-year-old male, whose identity has not been revealed.
The incident occurred on the north side of the fort near the main doorway.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the unofficial source. A gun was found on the dead man and marijuana was found next to his body.
