WAPA Discontinues Emergency Feeder Rotations

Feeder rotation that left different St. Thomas neighborhoods blacked out periodically since Sunday has been discontinued and no further service interruptions are planned, the V.I. Water and Power Authority announced Wednesday evening.

Service interruptions began Sunday when generating units 14 and 18 at the Randolph Harley Power Plant failed. Repair crews determined the units required extensive repairs.

To meet the island’s needs, WAPA implemented a rotating schedule that blacked out customers on different feeders for two to three hours at a time, trying to match the best available resources to ensure service was retained by as many residential and commercial customers as possible.

Unit 14 was repaired Tuesday, but WAPA continued a scaled-back rotation schedule for two more days to ensure the stability of the system.

On Wednesday, WAPA advised customers who continue to experience service interruptions to call the authority’s emergency number, 1-340-774-1424.
