Small Fire Breaks Out at Bovoni Landfill

A small fire broke out on the active cell of the Bovoni landfill early Wednesday, but it was extinguished without incident, according to the V.I. Waste Management Authority.

The VIWMA announcement said it suspected an item in the waste stream combusted, causing the fire.

The authority’s landfill operations contractor, A9 Trucking Enterprises LLC, reported that it was able to separate the impacted material from the active cell.

V.I. Fire Services traveled to the scene and inspected the extinguished site. The area continues to be monitored, VIWMA said.

Normal operations at the site were not impacted, the authority said.
