Ulke Gade Shooting Is St. Thomas's First Homicide of the Year

A man was shot and killed on St. Thomas early Sunday morning, the island’s first homicide of the new year.

It was the second homicide in 2015 in the territory.

According to Melody Rames, public information officer of the V.I. Police Department, at 1:38 a.m. Sunday, police were called to Ulke Gade by 911 dispatchers, who had received a call of shots fired and a man man down. The officers found a 38-year-old man who had been shot several times.

Police are withholding the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau continues to investigate the case and urged anyone who was in the area at the time or who knows anything about the case to call detectives at 1-340-714-9834 or 1-340-715-5522. They can also call the 911 emergency call center or the anonymous tip service, Crimes Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
