The V.I. Tourism Department announced Thursday the launch of the V.I. Nice Challenge, a social media competition that kicks off a broader V.I. Nice summer promotion.
The challenge, which begins Friday, asks individuals to record themselves singing a chorus and verse of the hit song, “Virgin Islands Nice,” by Virgin Islands recording artist Pressure Busspipe.
Participants upload their videos to www.VisitUSVI.com/NiceChallenge, and then encourage their friends and family to share and vote for their video via social media.
Tourism awards the grand prize to the participant with the most votes and shares at the end of May. The prize includes a five-night/six-day stay at a luxury resort on St. Thomas, complimentary airfare for two, roundtrip airport transfers on St. Thomas, $500 in V.I. Nice certificates for shopping, dining and activities, a private dinner with Pressure Busspipe and VIP access to the V.I. Nice Peace Concert this summer.
"The Department of Tourism is excited to once again partner with Pressure and engage with our visitors,” Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty said. "This promises to be a fun competition that will bring our beautiful islands top-of-mind for travelers heading into the summer months."
Leading up to the grand prize announcement, Tourism will randomly select one individual each week to win a smaller prize. The prizes slated for Week I are a pair of Virgin Islands sunglasses; for Week 2, a pair of Virgin Islands watches; and for Week 3, a pair Virgin Islands Mocko Jumbie pendants.
Tourism will also launch a V.I. Nice public service announcement to engage residents. The announcements include prizes awarded to businesses with the most votes in the “Text your V.I. Nice” experience.
