In commemoration of Law Day, the District Court of the Virgin Islands sponsored a Jury Poster Contest where students in private, public, and parochial schools in grades 9 through 12 were invited to submit a jury poster that depicted the concept that Legal System + Community = Jury. The District Court embraced the opportunity not only to introduce the importance of the jury process in our legal system to the next generation of citizens, but also to create a consciousness and willingness to serve on juries when called upon.
The first and second place winners from the Division of St. Croix are: Tara Serrant, an 11th grade student at the Seventh-day Adventist School (first place); and Joi Thomas-Lewis, an 11th grade student at the Seventh-day Adventist School (second place). There were no submissions in the St. Thomas Division.
The first place winner received a 16GB iPad Mini, and the second place winner received a Pebble Smart Watch. The winning posters will be displayed in the Jury Assembly Room of the Almeric L. Christian Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse.
