V.I./P.R. Friendship Committee Schedules Annual Celebration Events

The Virgin Islands/Puerto Rico Friendship Committee, St. Thomas-St. John, has announced the schedule for its 2016 annual celebration entitled “Movements in Cultural Reflections.”
The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts will host a photo exhibit by Mario Picayo at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, displaying carnival costumes of the V.I., Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba. Picayo will speak on creative similarities and differences among the jurisdictions. There will be wine tasting and other soft drinks for those in attendance. 
Art and E’s Garden Teahouse and Things will host an evening called ‘Reflecting Blends of Friendship’ at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. It will include an orchestra directed by Louis Taylor, an art exhibit and the reciting of poetry.
Reichhold Center for the Arts will feature the Guateque-Folkloric Ballet of Puerto Rico at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10. The program will also showcase local cultural performers, the Mungo Niles Cultural Dancers and the Caribbean Ritual Dancers.
