Public Asked to Take Part in Recognition of Purple Heart Veterans

Residents, businesses, churches and organizations are invited to join with the Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) to recognize the territory’s Purple Heart Veterans this November.
Join the VA in its quest to “turn our territory purple” for one week in recognition of purple heart veterans. They are veterans who have either lost their life while in combat or incurred a combat-related injury while serving in a combat environment.
The intent of this campaign is to have as many businesses, churches, organizations, and houses lit with a purple light on the most outer part of their establishment during the week of Nov. 6-11. Beginning at 8 p.m. each day of the week, for a minimum of two hours, all participants will be asked to turn on their purple light as a way to show gratitude to those that either made the ultimate sacrifice or were injured during their tour of duty.
Get a purple bulb at a vendor of choice.
For further information, call the V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs in either district at 773-8387 or 774-8387.

Unlike many news organizations, we haven't put up a paywall - we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. Our sites are more popular than ever, but advertising revenues are falling - so you can see why we could use your help. Our independent journalism costs time, money and hard work to keep you informed, but we do it because we believe that it matters.
