16th Annual Relay for Life to Raise Funds for American Cancer Society

The 16th Annual Relay for Life is scheduled for June 24/25, at Addelita Cancryn Junior High School. It will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 and end at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 25. The American Cancer Society invites people to build a team, join a team or donate to the cause.

No one is immune to cancer, but there is always hope because of the generosity and support of people who support the mission of the American Cancer Society (ACS). Every dollar raised in the territory stays in the territory and is used to give direct financial assistance to newly diagnosed cancer patients. Organizations both private and public, as well as individuals throughout the community, are asked to get involved in this mission to save lives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

“I encourage you to register or join a team at www.relayforlife.org/stthomasvi and commit to fundraising,” said Tina Beazer, community manager of the U. S. Virgin Islands Unit of the American Cancer Society. “It is imperative and quite crucial that ACS is able to raise funds for our territory to ensure that those in need are receiving the help that is required to battle this dreadful disease.”

There will be a Luminaria Ceremony held in the evening with candles lit in remembrance of those who lost their battle against cancer and to honor those who have survived. Survivors will make a special lap around the field as caregivers, volunteers, family and friends support and encourage them in their symbolic journey. Luminaria bags with candles will be available for purchase at the event, as well.

Visit www.relayforlife.org/stthomasvi to learn more about the event, to donate, or to start a team. Call the office at 775-5373 or e-mail tina.beazer@cancer.org for more information.
