Recent Results of the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Michelle Smith, a high school junior at Montverde Academy, competed in the Florida-Georgia High School Challenge in Gainesville, Fla., on Feb. 4 and 5.

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Michelle Smith, a high school junior at Montverde Academy, competed in the Florida-Georgia High School Challenge in Gainesville, Fla., on Feb. 4 and 5.

Michelle Smith placed 1st in the 600m while running a time of 1:30.85 which ranked her No. 1 in the United States for high school athletes. Her time is a Virgin Islands National Indoor record, a Youth Facility record and a Montverde School record.

Smith’s time in the 600m is the exact same time her mom, Mireille Sankatsing-Smith, ran in 1992 in the 600m, which is still the Eastern Michigan University school record. Her mom ran that two months before she became the NCAA Division I champion in the 800m.

Michelle Smith also competed in the 4 * 400m relay, helping her Montverde team to a first-place finish in a time of 3:48.89. Their time ranked Montverde No. 1 in the United States and is a Montverde School record.

Smith has been invited to compete in the Millrose Games at The Armory in NYC, N.Y., on Feb. 11.

Malique Smith

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Malique Smith continued his Indoor Track and Field season in Gainesville, Fla., at the 2023 Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic on Feb. 3. Smith placed 1st in the 400m with a personal indoor record of 48.22 in the event.

Rachel Conhoff

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Rachel Conhoff, a senior at Ursinus College, competed in her university’s final home meet, the Frank Colden Invite, on Feb. 4. Conhoff competed in the 800m and placed 1st overall with a time of 2:19.50. Rachel’s time in the 800m ranks her No. 2 in her conference, the Centennial Conference.

Rachel’s next track meet will be Feb. 10 where she will compete in a two-day competition at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

St. Croix Interscholastic athletes competed in their second track and field meet for elementary, middle school, JV and varsity. 58 athletes competed in the middle school, JV and varsity divisions on Feb. 2 in the 100m and 400m. The 116 elementary athletes competed the next day, Feb. 3, in the 80m and 300m for group 1, Under 9 and the 100m, and 400m for group 2 and 3, Under 11 and All Elementary 11 and older.

The Interscholastic Track and Field series will continue on St. Croix for middle school and high school on Feb. 9 and for elementary school on Feb. 10 at the St. Croix Educational Complex Track.
