Nicholas D’Amour Wins First Place at Lancaster Indoor Event

At an event that is billed as a warm-up event to the Indoor season, Nicholas D’Amour had a superlative outing. The competition was attended by several members of the USA National Archery Team, including recent Olympians. It was held at Lancaster Archery Supply in Lancaster Pennsylvania.

At the event, billed as the Gingerbread Star FITA (Federation Internationale de Tir a l’Arc/ International Archery Federation), more than 200 archers competed. In the qualification round, D’Amour bested the entire field in all disciplines with a score of 594 out of a possible 600.  D’Amour shot 54 tens and 6 nines, averaging 9.9 per arrow shot.

This was a personal best for D’Amour and a Virgin Islands national record.

In the Elimination rounds: in the first round D’Amour defeated A. Yang 7-1 (30-28) (30-28) (29-29) (29-28); in the semi-finals, he defeated A. Arun (30-26)(30-30) (30-29) (30-28); and in the finals, he had yet another perfect run, defeating Joonsuh Oh (30-29) (30-20) (30-28) (30-29). D’Amour only dropped two arrows in the eliminations.

He will next compete in the USA Indoor Nationals on Jan. 13 and 14, 2024.  Then he will go to Nimes, France, for the largest indoor tournament in Europe Jan. 19-21, 2024.  After Nimes, he will compete in the largest indoor tournament in the world, the Las Vegas Shoot-out in Las Vegas, Nev.

Anne Abernathy recently competed in the Taipei Archery Indoor Open in Taoyuan City, Chinese Taipei.  In the Qualification Round, she shot a 490 out of a possible 600.  The cut for the elimination rounds was 536. Therefore, Anne did not advance further and finished 41 out of 60 competitors in the Recurve Women’s Division.
