VI Energy Office Launches Weatherization Assistance Program for Low-income Virgin Islanders

Virgin Islands Energy Office

The Virgin Islands Energy Office is launching the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) on Feb. 5, a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing utility costs for residents across the Virgin Islands.

The WAP program, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, is designed to assist low-income households in making their homes more energy efficient. By providing financial assistance and technical support, the program aims to enhance the comfort and safety of homes while reducing energy consumption and utility bills.

Through the WAP program, eligible residents will have access to a range of energy-saving measures, including inefficient household items to be updated with low-flow showerheads and aerators, energy-efficient lightbulbs, air-conditioner replacements, an ENERGY STAR refrigerator, water heater replacements, hot water heater timers, and other approved items. All these retrofits are free to participants. Participants will also receive educational material on how to keep their energy burden low.

These upgrades will not only help reduce energy waste but also contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for the Virgin Islands.

The Virgin Islands Energy Office recognizes the importance of energy efficiency in promoting economic stability and environmental sustainability. By implementing the WAP program, the Virgin Islands Energy Office aims to empower low-income households to make lasting changes that will positively impact their quality of life and financial well-being.

The Virgin Islands Energy Office encourages eligible residents to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.
