Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School will remain closed on Monday as crews continue critical repairs to the campus’s water system, the Virgin Islands Education Department announced.
The closure follows an early dismissal on Friday, March 21, after a broken water pipe disrupted the school’s ability to maintain adequate water service. An assessment by the Bureau of School Construction and Maintenance determined that a simple repair was insufficient, requiring a full upgrade to the water supply line, according to the press release.
Throughout the weekend, BSCM personnel have been working to assess the damage, secure necessary materials, and begin extensive repairs. VIDE acknowledged the inconvenience to families and staff and emphasized that restoring normal operations remains a priority, the press release stated.
To mitigate disruptions to student learning, VIDE is collaborating with school administrators to explore alternative instructional options, including the possibility of transitioning to virtual learning if in-person classes cannot resume beyond Monday. Further guidance will be provided if necessary, the release stated.
VIDE and BSCM will continue to monitor progress and will issue an official update on the school’s status for Tuesday. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed through VIDE’s official communication channels, it said.
