March 20, 2003 – Gloria and Velven Samuel saw a niche that needed filling and decided to fill it themselves. Their new store, Teacher's Aide, will open Saturday in Lockhart Gardens Mall, offering educational supplies targeted for children ages newborn to 8.
Located in Suite 102 of the mall, the store will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Velven Samuel said that after The Education Station closed a few years ago, residents had no place to buy such materials for their children. "We immediately began to feel the loss," she said.
Gloria Samuel said in a release that their stock includes educational games, school supplies, books, science and math kits, assorted scientific instruments and other materials for class projects "We will go the extra mile and make sure early childhood educators can get what they need right here on the island," she said.
Saturday's grand opening celebration will include discounts, story time and an appearance by Blue from "Blues Clues," a popular line of children's toys. Customers will have a chance to win a grand opening prize and to enter a drawing with winners to be selected next month.
