ODOR CAUSES CAHS TO CANCEL CLASSES FRIDAY

Classes at Charlotte Amalie High School have been cancelled Friday as an investigation continues into the source of foul odors detected earlier in the week. The odors caused the Health Department and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration to begin air samplings of the campus.
The odor caused the cancellation of classes Wednesday and the early dismissal of students on Thursday. Education spokeswoman June Archibald said though school is not in session Friday, custodial and administrative staff are expected to report.
CAHS principal Jeanette Smith-Barry said Thursday afternoon, "The investigation into the source of the odors is continuing by OSHA which has recommended the continuous ventilation of the affected areas of the school." She said, however, the Gladys Gabriel annex, which is not included in the affected area, will be in session Friday.
