'GLOBAL LINK' TO REPAIR LONG DISTANCE CABLE

The cable-laying ship "Global Link" will begin what is expected to be a two- to three-day repair project off St. Thomas on Tuesday.
The Source has learned that the ship, owned by Tyco companies, will arrive sometime Tuesday afternoon off of Peterborg Point to begin repairing one of the long-distance cables that routes telephone traffic in and out of the territory.
It could not be learned which of the dozen or more fiber-optic cables were damaged, who owns it or whether the downed line has impacted long-distance service to and from the Virgin Islands.
The vessel is expected to anchor about one kilometer from the point at Peterborg for the duration of the repairs.
The "Global Link" homeports at the V.I. Port Authority-owned Molasses Pier on St. Croix.
