St. Croix native and U.S. Army officer Al Francis was recently promoted from the rank of captain to major in a Pentagon ceremony.
Francis graduated from Alabama A&M and then enlisted in the Army as a commissioned officer. Through his demonstrated leadership skills as a platoon leader in Germany, Francis was promoted to his new rank with an eye toward becoming a commander of a airborne battalion.
According to the Army officials, Francis "Baseline of tactical experience in the Airborne at Fort Bragg has demonstrated your competence to serve our country. We are looking for greater things during your military career, therefore we look forward with great anticipation to your attendance and completion at the Commanding Generals Staff College."
