July 12, 2008 — On Sunday, four Virgin Islanders will join citizens from across the country in Washington, D.C., at the Congressional Black Caucus Institute's annual Political Bootcamp.
Attending will be Democrats Patrick Simeon Sprauve and Shirley Sadler from St. Thomas; and, Generation Now members Robert Rios and Karida Green from St. Croix.
This is the fourth year that Virgin Islanders have attended the camp, which is for one week. It exposes the participants to some of our nations leading elected officials and political operatives, as well as provides basic training on organizing and running a political campaign. The participants are divided into teams which run against each other.
Among prior participants are Melody Rames, who returned later as an instructor, Lisa Melchior, Barbara Dalmida Thompson, Leslie Comissiong, Lorna Thomas and Derek Gabriel.
On Wednesday, the group will be on Capitol Hill to meet and hear from the House leadership and the Congressional Black Caucus.
The participants were nominated and sponsored by Delegate Donna M. Christensen.
