Standard English Not Spoken

Dear Source:

Today's VI Daily News front page picture of the teachers' protest featured a teacher carrying a sign that read, in part, "I FED UP". It is little wonder why our students aren't learning standard English (and numerous other valuable subjects) when the teachers cannot express themselves any better than that. Yes, I understand the message and I agree that teachers everywhere are not paid well enough, but the subliminal message here, at best, is ignorance. Teachers SHOULD be especially careful to spell correctly and use proper grammar. I continue to hope that the present administration can start dragging our failed public education system out of its current pathetic condition in spite of the legislature. If we continue to fail our youth, they will continue to fail us.
