Santa Expected at Yacht Haven Grande For Raffle, Benefit

Yacht Haven Grande is celebrating Christmas early this year with its second annual Christmas in July celebration Saturday, complete with Santa, music, dancing, food and drink.

The anticipated highlight of the evening is Santa’s Sleigh Charity raffle to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands, with tickets going for $5.

Last year, the event raised about $1,200 for Nana-Baby Children’s Home, YHG marketing manager Josalyn Bitterman said.

Bitterman said this year there are exciting raffle donations from Caribbean hotels, shore excursions and gift certificates from YHG shops and restaurants.

She said Lisa Hamilton, president of the V.I. Hotel and Tourism Association, "has gotten hotel stays from the St. Kitts Marriott, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, Emerald Beach and Caribbean Beach hotels on St. Thomas, and Palms at Pelican Cove and Carambola Hotels on St. Croix."

On Deck Ocean Racing., V.I. Eco-Tours and Bolongo Bay have donated shore excursions for the raffle. This is in addition to YHG restaurants and stores, who have given several prizes and gift certificates, Bitterman said.

The Christmas evening begins at 5 p.m. Saturday with the Rising Stars Steel Orchestra, the Shaka Zulu Carnival Troupe, followed by the Spectrum Band from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. YHG stores will stay open until 9 p.m.

Bitterman said winners will be announced at the event, but you don’t have to be present to win. For more information, call 774-9500.
