Traxco Honors V.I./P.R. Friendship Day with 9-Race Card

This Sunday TRAXCO will honor the Virgin Islands/ Puerto Rican Friendship festivities with a nine-race card at the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack. Some 57 horses are expected to answer the call to post when the bugler blows his horn.

The day’s feature will be the one-mile race for a purse of $4,000 for class I-1 and I-2 thoroughbreds. Lost River, should he run on Sunday, will undoubtedly be cast as the favorite after back-to-back impressive wins. But although entered in the race, it has been rumored that he will skip Sunday’s race for a bigger payday on St. Thomas later in the month.

That means that it will most like be a tossup between the speedy Green Sand (119) and Cherokee Law (119), also coming off of back-to-back victories, as to who will be post-time favorites. Also entered in the race is the talented but under achieving Blackjack Bob (116) and a tough old campaigner in Formally Cat (115). Many expect Green Sand to grab the early lead as is his running style, then dares anyone to come after him. It should be exciting at the wire as both Cherokee Law and Blackjack Bob will be coming hard late.

A next fan’s must see race will be the 7 ½ Furlongs sixth race for native-born thoroughbreds for a purse of $3,300. The late running Prince Crystal (118) has been impressive in winning the opening leg of the native Triple Crown last race day and will be hoping to use Sunday’s race as a tune up for the second leg in November. Express to Cali (117) representing St. Thomas has been close and should be the one to catch for Prince Crystal. Emerald Star (118) also showed early speed last race day but tire badly in the end. The other entries in this race, Tristich (115), War (115), and Fantasia are not expected to make much noise in this race, but who knows, they could surprise.
