Police on St. Croix are investigating a fatal shooting of a man in his mid 20s at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. It was the first homicide on St. Croix in 2011, the second in the U.S. Virgin Islands this year.
The shooting happened in the Mutual Homes housing community in Estate Grove Place, according to a news release from the V.I. Police Department.
When police arrived on the scene they saw the wounded victim lying on the ground. Officers administered CPR, and when emergency medical technicians arrived shortly after they attended to the victim. However the man was unresponsive and died, according to medical personnel.
Police said the victim was exiting his vehicle near his home in the housing community when he was shot by one or more suspects, who fled the scene after the shooting.
