The Division of Personnel has announced the launch of the Healthy Pregnancies, Healthy Babies program in cooperation with CIGNA. Personnel Director Kenneth L. Hermon Jr. described the initiative as “designed to help women who are planning a pregnancy or expecting a child to ensure their child gets a healthy start.”
The program seeks to support women and their babies in staying healthy during pregnancy and in the weeks and months following a child’s birth. By participating in the program, new as well as experienced mothers may gain access to nutritional, health and wellness information and can track key healthy pregnancy indicators.
Hermon said “Of equal importance, plan members who participate in CIGNA’S Healthy Pregnancies, Healthy Babies program are eligible for financial assistance.” When plan members enroll during the first trimester and complete the program, they become eligible to receive a check for $250. If a plan member enrolls during the second trimester of the pregnancy, she becomes eligible to receive a check for $150.

Governor de Jongh reminds all residents that by taking advantage of new and innovative programs such as this one, we can work toward decreasing some of the health disparities that occur in the Virgin Islands. The program, in combination with expanded Medicaid services for pregnant women and children, demonstrates a key focus and commitment to early childhood care and decreasing disparities in total.
