VIHA’S Employees Working Remotely; Offices Closed in Both Districts

Virgin Islands Housing Authority

The Virgin Islands Housing Authority (VIHA) is committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure its public housing residents’ and staff’s health, safety and well-being are not compromised. Consistent with the restrictions outlined by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. during the COVID-19 update held on Dec. 27 and because of the increase in active cases, effective Wednesday, Dec. 29, VIHA will suspend all in-person contact with the public at all of its facilities in the territory.

While all in-person contact has been suspended through Jan. 10, 2022, the authority’s staff is still available remotely and can be reached via telephone and email. To report concerns and emergencies, public housing residents are asked to contact VIHA’s Emergency After-hours answering service at (305) 447-2464. Be advised that non-essential repairs will be postponed until further notice. Clients of the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) can contact the office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., on St. Croix at 690-4789, and on St. Thomas at 626-2024 or 513-0337, Monday through Friday. Clients in both districts can also contact the Housing Choice Voucher Program via email at hcvp@vihousing.org.

VIHA apologizes for any inconveniences the operational changes may cause, but the safety of the staff is paramount. It will continue to closely monitor and evaluate the risk of exposure to its staff and clients, and revisions will be made based on the evolving outbreak situation.

The V.I. Housing Authority also encourages its employees, residents and the public to follow the precautionary measures outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Health and the Office of the Governor to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
