The Magens Bay Authority regrets to announce that Smith Bay (Lindquist Beach) will once again be closed to the public effective Thursday, July 9, 2026, until further notice due to a significant new influx of sargassum along the shoreline.
Although the beach recently reopened following extensive cleanup efforts, changing environmental conditions have resulted in another substantial accumulation of sargassum, creating conditions that are not suitable for public recreation. In the interest of public safety, the Authority has made the difficult decision to close the beach until conditions improve.
During the closure, swimming is strictly prohibited, and lifeguard services will not be available. The Authority’s maintenance crews will continue working diligently to remove the accumulated sargassum and restore the beach as quickly as conditions permit.
“We understand this closure is disappointing to our residents and visitors, especially after recently reopening the beach,” said Monique Simon, General Manager of the Magens Bay Authority. “Unfortunately, the latest influx of sargassum has made it necessary to once again close Smith Bay. Our staff will continue cleanup operations and closely monitor conditions so that we can safely reopen the beach as soon as possible.”
