TV STATIONS TO SIMULCAST THE STATE FUNERAL LIVE

Sept. 18, 2002 – TV 2 and WTJX, Channel 12, will pool together to broadcast the state funeral of former Virgin Islands Gov. Alexander A. Farrelly, who died last week at his home in Virginia.
At 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, WTJX, Channel 12, will air the St. Croix memorial service recorded earlier that day by the Government Access Channel.
On Friday, WTJX and TV 2 will simulcast live the Mass at the Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cathedral in Charlotte Amalie starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until noon. WTJX will present a repeat broadcast from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
WTJX reminds viewers on the south side of St. Croix that Channel 12 programming can be seen via translator station W05AW by hooking up a small outdoor antenna, or in some cases, a pair of rabbit ears to their TV sets.

PUBLIC IS WELCOME TO VIEW OEDIPUS, THE FILM

Sept. 18, 2002 – A film version of "Oedipus the King," the Sophocles play, will be shown in the AV Room at Antilles Upper School at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
The film was made as a joint project of the British Broadcasting Corporation and the American Films for the Humanities and Sciences workshop. Michael Pennington plays the role of the ill-fated king, supported by Claire Bloom as Jocasta and John Gielgud as Tiresius the prophet.
Although the showing is offered primarily for the humanities class of Antilles School, the public is invited to join them for the free presentation and, hopefully, a lively discussion to follow, said a release from the school.

UVI's St. Croix Campus Invites All to a Caribbean Luau
The public is invited to a Caribbean Luau on UVI's St. Croix campus Sunday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 9 p.m.
A pig roast, hula dancing, leis for all and a wide variety of musical entertainment are planned. The luau and other events and activities will be held at the Student Center building. Admission to the luau is free. Food and drink will be on sale. For more information call David Capriola at 692-4196.
Among the artists providing music will be Valrica Bryson, Voices in Harmony, Ayinde Popo, Ronnie Russell, the V.I. Arts Ensemble, Jeanette Cochran, Big Band and Caribbean Fusion Band.
"Full Moon Vibrations" to feature "Capoeira" Demonstration
The St. Thomas campus Student Government Association's African Heritage Committee will host its second "Full Moon Vibrations" event on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. on the golf course of the St. Thomas campus.
A special presentation of "Capoeira," a form of African Brazilian dance and martial arts, is planned. For more information contact Junie Violenes at 693-1111.
Fall Research Symposium at Sports and Fitness Center
The university community and the V.I. public are invited to the second annual Fall Research Symposium sponsored by the UVI Science and Mathematics Division. The symposium runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center.
Oral and poster presentations by students who participated in summer and other research programs will be presented. For more information call Dr. Camille McKayle at 693-1329.
UVI's St. Thomas Bookstore to Close for Inventory September 24-30
The St. Thomas Campus Bookstore will be closed for End of Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Inventory from Tuesday, Sept. 24, through Monday, Sept. 30. The Bookstore will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 1. For more information call the Bookstore at 693-1560.
Voter Registration Set September 26 on UVI's St. Thomas Campus
Voter registration will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, on UVI's St. Thomas campus at the cafeteria porch. V.I. residents who are at least 18 years of age are eligible to register. All are asked to bring proof of citizenship: birth certificates, naturalization papers, etc.
Demonstrations of voting machine use will be offered and information on the candidates will be available.
