Angilla Landfill Closed by Fire – Again

For at least the eighth time in the last year and the fourth time this year, the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix was closed Saturday because of a fire.

Anguilla Fire Still Burning; Smoke Blowing Across STX Airport

This was not a good week to fly in or out of the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix. A fire that was reported early Sunday at the Anguilla Landfill was still smoking on Tuesday afternoon.
No tires have been removed from the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix, despite an agreement that that would happen.

EPA Approves USVI Self-Permitting of Landfills

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday it has approved the U.S. Virgin Islands’ municipal solid waste landfill permit program, allowing the territory to manage its landfills and expand or create new ones.

Judge Calls WMA Landfill Progress Impressive but Inadequate

When Adrian Taylor, the interim director of the Waste Management Authority, appeared in federal court on Tuesday, he reported progress taking place at the territory’s two landfills. District Court Judge Curtis Gomez called the efforts impressive.
