Feds Pony Up $10 Million For V.I. Waste Diversion

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Associate Deputy Administrator Doug Benevento and Region 2 Administrator Pete Lopez wrapped up a visit with Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and other senior officials Tuesday as the territory was awarded $10 million for waste diversion work.

13th Fire in a Year Shuts STX Landfill Thursday

A fire broke out at the Anguilla Landfill Thursday morning around 6 a.m. It was put out by noon and the landfill will open at 6 a.m. Friday, according to Waste Management Authority spokeswoman Melody Rames.

Trash Crisis Postponed – For Now

Unpaid trash haulers and companies operating the territory’s two landfills have come to an agreement with the government to get money now and hopefully more soon, averting a threatened work stoppage that would have gone into effect June 9.

V.I. Trash Crisis: Unpaid Haulers May Stop Work in a Week

Trash haulers and companies operating the territory's two landfills may stop hauling trash and stop maintaining the landfills by June 8 if the Waste Management Authority does not pony up millions of dollars.

11th Fire in 12 months Sparks up at Anguilla Landfill

A fire was observed in the scrap metals section of Anguilla Landfill and reported to the Fire Service around 2:36 p.m. Monday afternoon. Landfill operations have not been affected.

10th Fire in a Year Hit Anguilla Landfill Sunday

A fire was spotted on the southeast perimeter slope of the St. Croix Anguilla landfill at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, April 26. It was the landfill’s 10th fire in less than 12 months.

Angilla Landfill Closed by Fire – Again

For at least the eighth time in the last year and the fourth time this year, the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix was closed Saturday because of a fire.

*Update – Reopened * Anguilla Landfill Closed Due to Fire for Seventh Time in Under a Year

The Anguilla Landfill is on fire again, according to a release from the Waste Management Authority. The Waste Management Authority advises the public and all haulers that landfill operations have been temporarily suspended.

WMA Hires Engineers to Plan Anguilla Closure and New STX Landfill

The V.I. Waste Management Authority has hired Oasis Consulting Services to design and help with closing Anguilla Landfill over the next year or so, while identifying and preparing a new St. Croix landfill location.
