Reuben Gomez Jr. won his first race ever at the National Library Week "Run To Your Library" 5k on Saturday.
Gomezs time was 19 minutes and 49 seconds. Known for his talent as a baseball player, Gomez, the 14-year-old and brother of the Gomez sisters, Xiamara and Evilise, took the lead and held it at mid-race, which was run in historic Christiansted town.
Teddy Seymour took second place with a time of 20:58; Rey Lutz was third in 23:34; Junuru Goodwin was fourth in 23:48 in what might be the fast time ever in the V.I. for a boy 10 years and under. Warren Stansbury was fifth in 24:05; J'Kinde Goodwin was sixth in 28:38.
Theresa Harper continued her winning ways as she held the lead over the females throughout the race, her time was 21:09, good for third place overall. Jo Shim was second in 22:16; Jawana Goodwin was third in 24:40; Xiamara Gomez was fourth in 25:45; J'Kiwa Goodwin was fifth in 25:46
The next race on the V.I.Pace Runners schedule is the Paradise 5k on May 3 followed by the Children Run Christiansted on May 4.
