BENJAMIN FOUNDATION DONATES DENTAL EQUIPMENT

Nov. 13, 2001 – The Benjamin Foundation, funded by the family of Crucian composer Claude "Benny" Benjamin, has donated dental equipment for the Department of Health in both districts.
"We are truly grateful for this latest gift, to further improve our health care system," said Commissioner of Health Mavis L. Matthew.
This gift, latest of many to the Health Department by the Benjamin Foundation, will upgrade the services of the dental clinics, a release said.
Claude "Benny" Benjamin was a Crucian musician who wrote and collaborated on more than 350 songs. Two songs from the World War II era are well-known: I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire and When the Lights go on Again (All Over the World. The name of another, Wheel of Fortune, was taken from a St. Croix neighborhood, according to an article by V.I. composer Wilbur "Bill" LaMotta.
The public and media are invited to the donation ceremonies. On St. Thomas the ceremony is at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Dental Clinic in Community Health in the Roy L. Schneider Hospital. The ceremony on St. Croix will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Charles Harwood Complex.
