May 10, 2002 – The St. Thomas Department of Housing Parks and Recreation Co-ed Slowpitch League championships began Friday evening at the Joseph Aubain Ballpark. The Department of Education demolished the Police Department/Immigration and Naturalization Services, Law and Order team, 17-2.
Education jumped all over Law and Order from the very beginning of the game. Education first held Law and Order scoreless in the top of the first inning. The onslaught began in the bottom of the first inning when Education scored five runs in the inning.
Law and Order where held scoreless for the next four innings. Education added four runs in the bottom of the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 17-0 lead.
Education had 16 hits and committed three errors in the game. Neville Amey and Michael Bute each had a perfect night at the plate getting fours hits and two hits respectively to lead Education. Their teammates Avery Smith and Franklin Brathwaite each had three hits in four at bats and each had a three-run homeruns in the first and fifth inning respectively. Pedrito George also added a two for three performance. Brathwaite pitched for Education.
Law and Order scored two meaningless runs in the top of the six inning. They had seven hits and committed seven errors in the contest. Arthur Frazier suffered the lost for Law and Order. Kerry Harrigan and Derrick Greaves each had two hits in three at bats to lead Law and Order offensively.
Game two of the best of seven championship series will be played on Monday at 8:00pm.
