Dec. 22, 2002 – Following are announcements of government office closings over the yearend holidays and into January.
Water and Power Authority
WAPA customer service offices will be closed on this schedule:
Tuesday — territorywide.
Wednesday (Christmas) — territorywide
Dec. 31 — territorywide.
Jan. 1 (New Year's) — territorywide.
Jan. 2 — on St. Croix.
Jan. 3 — territorywide.
Jan. 4 — territorywide.
Jan. 6 — territorywide.
Jan. 7 — on St. John.
Jan. 8 — on St. Croix.
Offices on St. Croix will be open on Dec. 27 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The St. Croix and St. Thomas offices will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 28.
"Customers are advised to avoid long lines by paying utility bills at Banco Popular, V.I. Community Bank or FirstBank," a WAPA release stated. "Customers may also deposit checks or money orders in payment drop boxes which are available at all customer service locations."
While offices are closed, customers with emergency needs should telephone 774-1424 or 774-3552 for St. Thomas or St. John and 773-2250 or 773-0150 on St. Croix.
Labor Department
St. Thomas district Labor Department offices were closed last Friday and on Monday and will be closed on Friday, next Monday, and Jan. 2 for "staff training and development."
Tuesday (Christmas Eve), Wednesday (Christmas Day) and Jan. 1 (New Year's Day) are government holidays. That means the only days between Dec. 19 and Jan. 3 that the offices will be open are on Thursday and Dec. 31.
"The staff will engage in a series of seminars designed to enhance customer service, career development and motivational techniques," a release stated. It added that "normal operations will resume on Jan. 7."
District Court
The U.S. District Court offices in the territory will be closed as follows in December and January:
Tuesday – closing at noon for Christmas Eve.
Wednesday — closed for Christmas.
Thursday — closed for Boxing Day
Dec. 31 — closing at noon for New Year's Eve.
Jan. 1 — closed for New Year's Day.
Jan. 3 — closed for Crucian Festival Children's Parade.
Jan. 6 — closed for Three Kings Day.
Jan. 20 — closed for Martin Luther King Day.
Housing Authority
All Housing Authority-sponsored programs will be on recess from Monday through Jan. 6, according to a release citing the Community Services Division of the authority's Management and Tenant Services Department. "Classes will resume on Jan. 7," it stated.
