BOY FOUND WITH ASSAULT WEAPON AT SCHOOL

Jan. 16, 2003 – A 14-year-old junior high school student was in custody at the Youth Rehabilitation Center on Thursday evening after being found in possession of an assault-type automatic weapon earlier in the day on the school grounds.
Law-enforcement sources said the boy was stopped on the Arthur A. Richards Junior High School grounds by school monitors who had learned that he was carrying a firearm.
Police Juvenile Unit detectives took him into custody and confiscated the Tech-9 weapon around noon, the sources said.
According to authorities, the boy has had no previous brushes with the law.
