MODEL FARM OPENING CEREMONY

A public opening ceremony for the UVI Integrated Model Farm Project, originally scheduled for Nov. 16, has been rescheduled for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. The farm, situated on five acres of land adjacent to the St. Croix campus, was developed by UVI's Agricultural Experiment Station. It includes rainwater collection systems, holding ponds, tanks for raising fish and an irrigation system which uses the effluent from the fish tanks. UVI Professor Dr. James Rakocy, one of the farm's developers, said the model farm represents the best of 30 years of experimentation and work at developing sustainable and economically viable agricultural systems for the Caribbean. A brief presentation and tours of the farm are planned. For more information, call Dr. Rakocy at 692-4031 or Dr. Bob Godfrey at 692-4042.
