Aug. 27, 2004 – Anyone trying to reach the Water and Power Authority St. Thomas offices by telephone on Friday afternoon was unable to do so.
According to a release from WAPA, telephone service to the Sub Base building was interrupted because of a traffic accident that damaged phone lines in the area.
The lines, down since about 1 p.m., had not been repaired as of late Friday afternoon, Laurie Christian in the WAPA public relations office said. She could not say how soon service would be restored.
In another release issued Friday evening, WAPA said its St. Croix customer service office will be closed on Saturday "due to technical problems between the St. Croix and St. Thomas offices."
This release said the traffic accident "damaged telephone and communication circuits, which resulted in severed telephone service in the Sub Base area."
Innovative Telephone officials could not be reached Friday afternoon.
WAPA asked that customers direct all calls to the St. Croix office, at 773-2250. It said officials anticipate that operations will return to normal Monday.
