WAPA Customer Service Office to Be Closed Saturday

Aug. 27, 2004 – The Water and Power Authority Customer Service Office on St. Croix won't be open on Saturday — because of a traffic accident on St. Thomas.
Anyone trying to reach the WAPA St. Thomas offices by telephone on Friday afternoon was unable to do so. According to a release from WAPA, phone service to the Sub Base building was interrupted because of a traffic accident that damaged phone lines in the area.
The lines, down since about 1 p.m., had not been repaired as of late Friday afternoon, Laurie Christian in the WAPA public relations office said. She could not say how soon service would be restored.
In another release issued Friday evening, WAPA said the St. Croix office would be closed on Saturday "due to technical problems between the St. Croix and St. Thomas offices."
This release said the traffic accident "damaged telephone and communication circuits, which resulted in severed telephone service in the Sub Base area."
Innovative Telephone officials could not be reached Friday afternoon.
WAPA asked that customers direct all calls to the St. Croix office, at 773-2250. It said officials anticipate that operations will return to normal Monday.
