Tricia Homer, Miss U.S. Virgin Islands, Named Miss Congeniality

June 8, 2005 – Capturing the attention and admiration of her fellow contestants, Tricia Homer, Miss United States Virgin Islands, was named Miss Congeniality during the 54th Annual Miss Universe 2005 competition in Thailand on May 30, 2005. Homer's peers voted her the most congenial, charismatic and inspirational participant in the competition, awarding her the title before a television viewing audience of more than 600 hundred million in over 180 countries.
"We are proud to have an individual with Tricia's poise and intellect representing the U.S. Virgin Islands," said Commissioner of Tourism Pamela C. Richards. "In competition and everyday life, she clearly personifies the warmth and hospitality that visitors encounter throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands."
A 23-year-old resident of St. Thomas and a moko jumbie dancer since the age of 11, Homer was awarded the title Miss U.S. Virgin Islands Universe in November 2004, during a competition in which she was recognized for Best Costume and as Miss Intellect. She holds a bachelor's degree in government studies from Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
