@Work: New Horizon Clothing

June 3, 2005 – Scents of rose, vanilla, lilac and jasmine from aromatherapy candles greet customers as they walk through the door, and clothes with interesting textures, styles, colors and patterns beckon from their place on the racks. New Horizon Clothing offers so much more than a wardrobe.
Owner Michelle Joshua has been in the retail trade for as long as she's been working. She spent seven years at stores in New York and New Jersey. "Upon moving back I realized there was a need for another decent clothing store. When it came time to find something to wear to work I would wait until I took a trip, or even go to Puerto Rico," says Joshua. "That's why I decided to open a store and offer professional wear."
Since opening her own store last August, she has offered a variety of professional clothing for women, as well as slippers, accessories, undergarments and aroma therapy products. In addition to candles, which Joshua says "illuminate with tranquility and peace that keeps you stress free," New Horizon carries herbal soaps, sprays and shea butter products.
The store offers quality, flattering, feminine clothing, and a "great customer service experience," says Joshua. She helps clients put together a professional wardrobe, with pieces that will work after five as well. "I have twin sets you can wear to work, and if you go to an event after five you can take the cardigan off." Other versatile pieces include basic skirts, slacks and embroidered T-shirts.
"Once I get the customer into the fitting room I look around the store and bring them items they would look good in," says Joshua. "Most people see things on a hanger and don't try it on because it doesn’t 'look like them.'" Joshua says they are often pleasantly surprised with the results.
The outfits can be finished with the perfect accessories—sterling silver, necklaces, earrings, hats and bags—all found at New Horizon.
From aromatherapy to the clothes, Joshua aims to make women feel good from the inside out.
Joshua carries clothing in sizes two to 24. New Horizon is located in Frenchtown Plaza across from the post office. It's open Monday thru Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Call the store at 774-8452.
