Children's Rides and Beach Jam Scheduled for Monday

Dec. 26, 2005 –– During Crucian Christmas Festival everyone has an activity to call their own and the activity most anticipated by children is the opening of the Coney Island rides with all the fun and excitement it brings for the younger crowd. The fun begins Monday night at 6 p.m. Admission is free every night and a dollar or two will get you a spin on one of the many amusement rides offered at the Children's village. The amusement rides will be open nightly until Jan 7.
Tiny tots and older kids can experience the chills and thrills of rides like the tilt a whirl, spinning cups, Ferris wheel and the merry-go- round. There are also games of chance and skill where you can win a bigger than life size stuffed animal or a smaller but equally prized trinket. Sweet treats like the candy apples, cotton candy and pizza slices will tempt the taste buds of the hundreds of people expected to visit the site during the Christmas season. Vendors will line the grounds selling games and other sweet treats.
Right across the street from the children's amusement park the Festival committee is hosting a grand beach jam with music by two-time Crucian road march champion the Xtaushun band. Also providing music will be the Outer Limits band and disc jockey Comumbo. The beach party gets under way at 2 p.m. and lasts until well after dusk. Admission is free.
The Festival Village, named in honor of Dwayne Fergus of Fergutrax Heavy Equipment, who, according to Crucian Christmas Festival committee member Richard Nicks, is a great supporter of festival, will have its official opening on Thursday, Dec. 29. Opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. On stage will be a tribute to Trevor Nicholas "Nick" "Daddy" Friday with music by Jam Band from St. Thomas and St. Croix's Phranchize band. Friday, a multi-time road march champion, and former leader of Jam Band, died on Oct. 5 from diabetes-related complications.
The traditional village opening day tramp begins at 8 p.m. from the Frederiksted Post Office and snakes down King Street to the village site. The tramp band has not been announced as yet.
